Deterring Insects Naturally Using Garden Plants
There are multiple different types of plants that you can use to deter insects in your yard and garden if you’re interested in learning more about controlling pests naturally.
Keeping flying insects such as mosquitoes away from your property if you live in a northern climate that is prone to mosquitoes is a matter of staying with the task. You will most likely always have some type of these flying pests around, but you can minimize it to some extent.
Ponds and water sources, particularly those which are not strong flowing and lay stagnant for a period of time are wonderful breeding grounds for the mosquito. The first order of the day is to either get a pump for it, or to drain it so that there is nowhere for these little devils to grow. Preferably you will add a pump to keep the water moving more rapidly.
In addition to this, some types of flowers and plants will specifically repel insects. Mosquitoes are kept away very well by the use of some plants that are quite common and very inexpensive. Planting your garden with some of these to help repel mosquitoes is a good way to start.
One such repellent plant is the marigold. They not only will keep bugs at bay outside but a flower vase filled with marigolds and other plants will prevent flies and mosquitoes from entering your home.
Marigolds are inexpensive and will not only deter mosquitoes but also prevent many other types of insects that will attack gardens. Many farmers for years have planted a row of marigolds around their tomatoes and beans to keep the bugs away more naturally. While they don’t work on all insects they do have a wonderful spicy aroma to humans that bugs simply don’t like
You will also find that marigold oils are used in many organic, or natural insect repellents for use in hiking and other outdoor sports. Bear in mind that sometimes you want to use something aside from marigold oils as they don’t repel every kind of insect that you may come in contact with.
