Most of us love to save money but for the majority, when we hear saving money on gifts, we automatically think of great aunt Martha’s habit of re-gifting, or the endless fruitcakes that seem to make the rounds repeatedly year after year.
An inexpensive gift doesn’t have to mean a lousy gift, or even one that you’re ashamed to give to someone when you’re going to be attending the party where they will open it. Low cost gifts can be a real life saver when you’re on a budget, and most of us are, and they can also be a wonderful gift that is thoughtful and great for the recipient to receive.
A few ideas for home made gifts that are inexpensive and cost less, but also are wonderful gifts to give and to receive are a make it yourself gift basket that you design to meet the needs of your hostess or a friend.
Giving a gift that you made yourself which is designed to specifically meet the needs of a busy holiday host will make it look like a million dollars, even if you only spent ten to build it.
Get a large wicker basket with a sturdy handle and put together something that you know will be needed the next few days. One idea is a full meal in the basket with a few extras to go along with it. A jar of gourmet spaghetti sauce, some whole grain spaghetti noodles, a round of parmesan and a loaf of crusty bread as well as a bottle of nice wine and a cotton checked tablecloth puts the entire meal together for them adds a little something extra and costs about 25 dollars to accomplish.
The meal and the idea will help a busy hostess to not have to find something to cook for one meal and you’ve offered them a thoughtful gift that was low cost.
Likewise you could, for a busy friend, put together that same type of basket for them, using mineral batch salts, some natural lotions and other additions that gives them a lovely hot bath at the end of a hectic day
A low cost, make it yourself gift, does not mean that you don’t give something thoughtful, it merely means that you’re trying to do your best to save money and to be a good friend to the recipient of your gift.
