The price of internet service has been going down a bit in the last few years but the fact is that high speed internet is still costly to have as part of your home. Getting it installed is even more costly, but you just don’t want to live without it so you pay the price. Do you have to?
What speed is your internet and what speed do you need to have connected to be able to do the things that you do from home. Chances are that you’re a home user, not a home office user. If that is the case the speeds that you have may be overkill and you’re paying for both speed as well as transfer, depending on what company you use.
If you buy into the need for the highest speeds that you can get then you’re going to pay for them, and if what you’re doing is surfing the internet or sending email to your cousin’s sister’s mother, then you probably don’t need that dual T-1 connection that they sold you.
Consider what you use your internet for and how fast it has to be to adequately let you want streaming videos, download your email and photos and send responses to those emails.
If you’re paying more than 50 dollars a month for the right to do those things you’re probably overpaying and can cut the costs by lowering your allowable use each month as well as lowering your speeds to what will let you surf comfortably with adequate speed.
Another way to cut the cost of your internet bill may be to go wireless. The installation for a cable based internet service will normally cost about 120 dollars or perhaps a bit more, while a monthly fee of 59-79 dollars is quite common for the use of the internet. Our internet fee was about 49 dollars per month for the service as well as an overage charge for anything we used over a certain amount. While it isn’t common to go above your limit it can happen and when it does ends up being expensive.
Wireless installations by comparison normally cost about 100 dollars and the monthly fees are between 39 and 59 dollars. The fees are somewhat less, the service does not seem to be any the less reliable to use for work or for home type use and the savings over just three months for us with a comparable speed of data exchange was about 19 dollars per month or 60 dollars in just three months time.
The transfer rate for us is about 2Mbs download and 500K per second upload, which isn’t anything that you can’t live with for your home use. There are faster packages available to the customers for a price that is quite comparable to what they might pay for a slightly slower service in their cable company.
To be honest we’re not sure what the reason for the price differential is, or why it exists but the fact is that in three different systems that we have explored, the price of wireless is less costly in comparison to wired internet service and the installation charges remain consistently lower. To save a little money on your internet services, explore what wireless internet service companies may have to offer in your area.
There is another advantage to the product. When your cable is out from weather or wind, your internet is still working.
