A great many of us think that entertaining means that we’ve got to spend some big dollars going out to the local go-kart track, taking the kids to see a movie that may cost the earth, visiting a game room or something else that costs more than we really want to spend.
Think about that twice before you do it and you’re likely going to realize that you don’t have to spend the big bucks to entertain your kids. In fact you probably don’t have to spend a lot at all. Children want your attention very often more than they want to see those big ticket things, although once in a while is fine.
Taking the time to do things with your children rather than shelling out vast sums for things that they do without you is something that most kids will take to far more readily than you might imagine. Spending time just having a crafting day, doing drawing or painting or other things that both you and they enjoy and doing it side by side.
Believe it or not, if left to their own devices, most kids will entertain themselves with a roll of newsprint to draw on, a few clothespins and a jar, or a few tubes from the paper towels. How many times have you seen them?
For many parents it comes as a total shock that the new car or skateboard they bought the child comes in second to the box that it came in. This is one prime example of how your children can deal with low cost entertainment and you can save a few dollars. Try a picnic, a hike, or any of the other events that keep you all together and having a fun day rather than spending a big sum for something that part of you love and part of you spend watching the fun.
Get your kids motivated to think of things that you can all do together that keep the entertainment costs down so that everyone gets to spend time as a family but there is still a reasonable cost for it.
In most towns and cities there is a vast amount of free or low cost entertainment out there to see. Parks, zoos, hiking trails and other fun things are all around you and some of them are incredibly low cost, while others cost nothing at all. Take some time to be with your kids enjoying their company. Play games with them, talk to them or get involved in a video game tournament at home.
You’ll be amazed how much everyone enjoys it and someone may surprise you by asking to do it again.
