Stone and Stone Fencing in your Gardens

The first glimpse that anyone gets of your property or your home is quite likely the entry way to that property. Does yours tell them that you value their visit? Does it offer warmth and welcome to guests to your home? If you have an entry way that doesn’t really say “hi, nice to see you” then maybe you want to think about changing a few things.

One of the more lovely ways to welcome people to your property is a stone walkway or flagstone walk. You know yourself that the stone walkways offer you warmth that an earthen path just doesn’t.

The stone entry way, or interlocking flagstone walks bring a rich feeling with them, particularly when combined with a fountain, some statues, or simply leading to a tree lined back yard or flower garden.

Flagstone is remarkably easy to work with and works well for paths and sidewalks. The use for it can be just about anything in the yard. It works well with casual landscaping in your garden, or with a more elegant, well-appointed garden layout as well.

Flagstone is rock that’s been cut or split apart into slabs. The pieces are not regular in size or shape, which is part of the real beauty of it. There are multiple sizes, styles, colors and thicknesses of flagstone.

Flagstone isn’t a type of rock actually so nearly any rock can be turned into flagstone. If you want to match the front facade of stone on your home, you can order flagstone out of bluestone, red sandstone (less hardy) or essentially anything that will give you the kind of look you are trying to achieve.

A few things to consider when you decide to add a stone walkway is that you want to use a type of stone that is not the water repellent variety. This makes the stone very slippery, so if you live in a climate where it rains frequently, you’re going to want to select carefully the stone that you use.
